At Navitas Organics, we understand that agriculture is the basis for a healthy society; that’s why we’re committed to partnering with smallholder organic farms in order to help strengthen local economies and communities in regions where we do business. Every purchase of our ethically sourced, organically grown superfoods supports our growers and the innovations of small-scale farmers across the globe.
Our Cacao
Our cacao is Regenerative Organic Certified® and Fairtrade certified. The beans are sourced from the Dominican Republic, one of the earliest adopters of organic cacao production. The grower organization that we work with, FUNDOPO, supports local agricultural communities through the development of integrated, inclusive and restorative organic farming that delivers high-quality products and generates rural economic growth while also protecting the environment.
REGIONAL ECONOMIC SUPPORT
- Fosters long-term relationships with farmers
- Adds local jobs through in-country initial processing
- Increases economic security by pre-purchasing and financing the cacao harvest
- Improves local infrastructure by building roads, shelters, aqueducts and solar energy systems
FARMER TRAINING PROGRAM
- Maintains active demonstration plots for training new farmers
- Assists with organic farming training and certification
- Distributes seedlings and teaches pruning, grafting, composting & biodiversity planting
- Offers specialized support through on-staff agronomists
AGROFORESTRY
- Utilizes a traditional forest-like system for optimal ecological health
- Diversifies income sources and provides food security
- Fights deforestation by using existing farmland and former meadows for planting cacao
- Leaves 7% of farms wild and uncultivated
EQUITABLE LABOR PRACTICES
- Provides higher income for farmers—on average 35% above the global market price
- Audits supply chain regularly to ensure child labor prevention
- Supports woman-owned farms
- Creates better access to education and future opportunities for farmer families
